Men’s Alterations

A Suit That Looks Bought.
Or One That Looks Yours.

Suits, trousers and shirts, fitted properly — Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch

Off-the-rack menswear is cut for an average body that almost nobody has. The jacket is right in the chest and wrong at the waist. The trousers fit but break in the wrong place over the shoe. The sleeves cover half your hand.

None of that means the garment is wrong. It means it has not been finished yet. A jacket taken in at the waist and shortened at the sleeve stops looking like something you bought and starts looking like something made for you — and most people cannot say why, only that you look better.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can a suit jacket be altered?

Quite a lot, within limits. The waist, sleeve length and jacket length are straightforward. Shoulders are the hardest and most expensive change — a jacket that fits at the shoulders is worth altering everywhere else. One that does not usually is not worth the work, and Rejane will tell you that honestly rather than take the job.

Can you hem pants without losing the original cuff?

Yes. For trousers with a finished cuff, we remove the length from above and reattach the original cuff so it looks untouched. The same approach works for jeans with a worn hem you want to keep.

How long does it take?

It depends on the garment and on how full the calendar is that week. Simple hemming is fast; a suit with several adjustments needs a fitting and sometimes a second try-on. Bring the piece in and Rejane will give you a real date before any work starts — we do not quote a turnaround we cannot keep.

Should I bring the shoes I will wear?

Yes, always. Trouser length depends entirely on the shoe. Dress shoes and boots sit at different heights, and a hem measured against the wrong shoe is a hem measured wrong.

Do you work on off-the-rack suits?

That is most of what we do. An off-the-rack suit is cut for an average that almost nobody is. Bringing one to fit properly is usually the difference between a suit that looks bought and a suit that looks yours.
