Duette is about twenty-eight miles from the atelier, in the far northeast corner of Manatee County near where Betts Road meets State Road 70. It is the most rural place we serve: largely farmland, and a long way from almost everything.
We are not going to pretend that is convenient. The honest position is that for some jobs you should not drive here at all, and for others there is no closer equivalent.
When the drive makes sense, and when it does not
A pair of trousers shortened by an inch is a simple job, and a simple job done nearby is the right answer. What tends to justify a fifty-six mile round trip is work where the judgement matters more than the stitching: a garment that may or may not be alterable at all, a gown, an heirloom, a jacket that has already been altered badly once. Rejane's first answer is often that a piece should be left alone. That answer is worth having before the work rather than after it.

Is it worth driving from Duette for alterations?
For routine hemming, a closer option is usually the sensible choice and we will say so plainly. For anything difficult, irreplaceable, or previously altered by someone else, the assessment is the part you are actually driving for.
Can you tell me anything before I drive out?
We can talk the garment through by phone, WhatsApp or email first, and photographs help us prepare. The evaluation itself has to happen in person — a piece has to be seen on the body and its seams examined before anyone can say honestly what is possible.
