Casey Key is a narrow barrier island off Osprey and Nokomis, about twenty-seven miles from the atelier. Its northern connection to the mainland is the Blackburn Point Bridge — a steel swing bridge that opened in December 1926, carries a single lane of traffic across roughly fifteen feet of roadway, and still swings open for boats on the Intracoastal Waterway.
It is one of only two swing bridges of its era left in the United States, and it is genuinely charming. It is also the reason nobody at the north end of Casey Key plans a journey by mileage.
